At least one person is very happy with the Nigerian’s government decision ban Twitter in the country, and that’s former US president, Donald Trump. It’s too bad he won’t be able to tweet about it.

“Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their President,” Trump said in the statement.

On June 2, Twitter removed a tweet by Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari which it said violated the platform’s abusive behaviour policy. The social media giant also suspended his account for 12 hours.

Two days later, the government responded by declaring a state-wide ban on Twitter which it said was a “temporary measure” to curb misinformation and fake news.

In his statement, Trump, who is banned from all major social media platforms for his role in inciting the January Capitol Hill riots, encouraged other countries to follow in Nigeria’s footsteps and ban Twitter and Facebook.

“More COUNTRIES should ban Twitter and Facebook for not allowing free and open speech — all voices should be heard. In the meantime, competitors will emerge and take hold. Who are they to dictate good and evil if they themselves are evil? Perhaps I should have done it while I was President. But Zuckerberg kept calling me and coming to the White House for dinner telling me how great I was. 2024?” he added.
