Jamaica sweep 400m at Carifta Games
KINGSTON -Jamaican runners dominated the 400m on the first day of the 49th Carifta Games that got underway at the National Stadium on Saturday, winning eight of their 31 total medals won so far by capturing two in each of the four races.
Jamaica failed to finish first and second in only one of the finals, the Girls’ Under-17 that was won by Abigail Campbell in 53.83 seconds with her Jamaican compatriot Quana Walker taking third in 55.65 seconds as Guyana’s Narissa McPherson was second.
Marchino Rose (48.41 seconds) won the Under-17 boys title, edging Tajh-Marques White (48.82) on the line, with Trinidad and Tobago’s Kaiyin Morris third in 49.01 seconds.
Kaylia Kelly won the Under-20 girls title, running 52.32 seconds, her teammate Oneika McAnuff took the silver in 52.52 seconds and Bermuda’s Caitlyn Bobb was third in 53.12 seconds.
Delano Kennedy equalled his lifetime best 46.66 seconds to win the boys Under-20 title, beating Shemar Palmer who clocked 46.97 seconds while St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Amal Glasgow was third in 47.06 seconds.
