Search underway for 12 y-old and grandmother washed away in MoBay

ST JAMES, Jamaica — Firefighters are now searching for a 12-year-old girl and her grandmother who family members said were washed away by flood waters near Westgate in Montego Bay on Tuesday.

The missing people have been identified as Beryl Walters (68), and Jenell Walters who are of a Rose Heights address.

Barnett River, where the incident is said to have occurred

OBSERVER ONLINE understands that the grandmother and the 12-year-old were among occupants of a motor car that was swept away by the raging waters following heavy rain.

Further reports are that the family patriarch and a 25-year-old woman believed to be his daughter, who were also travelling in the car when the incident occurred, were rescued by men who fix tyres nearby.

More details to come in this developing story.
