Largie All-Star take domino crown
LARGIE All-Star were crowned champions after pulling off a 120-105 victory over favourites Elders Corner in the finals of the 2022 Winners Community Domino Easter League competition at Rae’s Water Store in Waterhouse on Monday.
It was sweet revenge for Largie All-Star as they were previously beaten by Elders Corner in a match which facilitated safe passage to the grand finale for the winners. As a result, Largie All-Star had to take the long road to the final by defeating Dilston All-Star in both legs of the semi-finals. It was also a remarkable achievement for the Largie Road-based team in winning the title in only their first season in the league.
Playing in front of a packed venue the Largie All-Star team started the match like a house on fire and led the Elders Corner team every step of the way, ending the first half with a scoreline of 65 to 50.
On the resumption nothing really changed as Largie All-Star continued to dominate proceedings, leaving the Elders Corner players wanting at times. Elders Corner drew for their secret weapon in partners Wyndel Johnson and Mark Muffet, but although they put up a spirited fight their efforts were not enough to overhaul their opponents who won quietly easily in the end.
The pair of Craig Facey and Ricardo Whittick of Largie All-Star were voted players of the finals.
All teams and individual awardees received their prizes at the presentation ceremony which followed the match.
“Firstly, I would like to thank the orgainsers, sponsors, players, supporters and everyone that was a part of this league as it was a successful tournament for parties.
“This competition is great for the community of Waterhouse as everyone came together and all had some fun. Things like these can build the community, and it was great to see that everyone rallied around each other,” Humbert Davis, first vice-president of the National Association of Domino Bodies, said.
