Masicka makes Billboard Hip Hop’s Fresh Picks

...track with British singer Mahalia dubbed a true collaboration

Dancehall superstar Masicka has made yet another giant leap on the international music scene after he collaborated with British singer and songwriter Mahalia, who was named one of Billboard’s latest Fresh Picks.

The world-renowned music chart released its selections for its weekly Fresh Picks and the Whites singer was named among the likes of Coco Jones, rapper YG, Amerie, Playboi Carti, and Ari Lennox for his part on the single titled Different Type of Love.

The track, which was released just over a week ago, is racing towards the 200,000 views mark on popular streaming platform YouTube and was dubbed by Billboard as a “true collaboration”.

“With Fresh Picks, Billboard aims to highlight some of the best and most interesting new sounds across R&B and hip hop,” the summary for the picks read.

“With two verses from Masicka, Different feels more like a true collaboration than the scores of rent-a-rapper moments that inundate the mainstream scene,” it further described the collaboration. “The two artistes perfectly match each other’s fly and capture the energy of a frisky night out.”

The single was also featured on Billboard Hip Hop’s official Instagram stories and was reposted by Masicka. As part of its inclusion on the Fresh Picks, Different Type of Love was also included on a special Spotify playlist.

Billboard also shared that this isn’t the first time Mahalia was partnered with Jamaican acts. The singer also has collaborations with Lila Iké and fast-rising dancehall star Bayka. With those features, the renowned music insiders say Mahalia is on her way to becoming this year’s “sultriest dancehall-R&B project”.

Since the song’s official release it has received tremendous support from several local artistes, including Mortimer,

Lila Iké, Ghanaian singer Moliy, and Grammy-winning producer Izy Beats.
