Royals beat Warriors for third T10 Blast victory

SURREY Royals got their third win of the inaugural Dream 11 Jamaica T10 Blast cricket competition when they got the better of Cornwall Warriors by eight wickets at Sabina Park in Kingston on Tuesday.

The Royals, second in the six-team table with nine points, scored 59-2 in reply to the Warriors’ 58 all out.

Scores: Warriors 58 (9.2 overs); Royals 59-2 (8.2 overs)

Batting first the Warriors, who are fourth with six points, took first strike but no batsman passed 13 as they were bundled out for a small total. National pace bowler Nicholson Gordon took 3-13 while Ryan Francis, Raewin Senior and Peat Salmon all grabbed two wickets apiece.

Under minimal pressure the Royals cruised to the target with Carlos Brown making 25 not out.

Afternoon rain forced a no-result in the second game at the venue — between leaders Surrey Kings, who have 16 points from six games, and third-place Middlesex Titans (seven points). The teams took home one point each from the abandoned encounter.

On Monday at Sabina the Titans fell to a four-run defeat at the hands of fifth-place Surrey Risers (six points) in the opening game.

Scores: Risers 106-5 (10 overs); Titans 102-6 (10 overs)

Delbert Gayle led the way with a 21-ball 35 to lift the Risers to 106-5, after they lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Errol Thomas and Brian Buchanan took two wickets each for the Titans.

In reply the Titans were just short, restricted to 102-6 from their allotted 10 overs.

Sherdon Allen made 33 against national spinner Akim Fraser, who snatched 3-24 for the Risers.

In the second game at the venue, Surrey Kings eased past last-place Middlesex United Stars (three points) by seven wickets.

Scores: United Stars 82-6 (10 overs); Kings 83-3 (5.3 overs)

Batting first, the United Stars were restricted to 82-6 from 10 overs as Alwyn Williams top-scored with 35. The Kings’ medium pacer Oraine Williams claimed 3-13, with support coming from Kenroy Williams (2-5).

Chasing a modest target, the Kings raced to 83-3 inside six overs as Andre McCarthy spanked an unbeaten, 12-ball 39. Left-arm pacer Andel Gordon (2-21) was the top bowler for the United Stars.

In Sunday’s early game at Sabina, Surrey Risers defeated Surrey Royals by 18 runs.

Scores: Risers 88-5 (10 overs); Royals 62-9 (10 overs)

Taking first strike the Risers made 88-5, thanks to Sadique Henry (39) and Ricardo McIntosh (22). Royals pacer Nicholson Gordon had figures of 2-16.

Chasing an average target, the Royals laboured to 62-9 before they ran out of overs. West Indies white-ball pace bowler Oshane Thomas, Fraser and Warren Campbell all grabbed three wickets.

In the second contest of the double-header on Sunday, Surrey Kings edged out Cornwall Warriors by four wickets.

Scores: Warriors 75-6 (10 overs); Kings 76-6 (8.3 overs)

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the Warriors could only muster 75-6 from their allotted 10 overs.

No batsman was able to reach 15 as the Kings bowler Shalome Parnell took 3-8.

The Kings did not find it all smooth going in their run chase, but eventually got over the line at 76-6.

Andre McCarthy top-scored with 22 against Jermaine Levy and Damion Ebanks who claimed two wickets each for the Warriors.
