Samora the ‘Chameleon’
There’s a lot of variety on Chameleon, the new album by Switzerland-based artiste Samora. Released on June 3, it is a blend of contemporary sounds and hears the singer working with several Jamaican acts.
She co-produced the 13-song set with Res Staudenmann and Kiro MusicMaker. Chameleon is distributed through Hapilos.
Samora, who was born in Suriname, salutes her Caribbean heritage on Pon di Front (Independent), the album’s lead single, which has a dancehall flavour.
There are a number of collaborations on Chameleon. They include Let Them Go featuring Jah Mason; All The Way with Anthony B; Please be Mine with Turbulence and My Way on which Samora shares the mic with Dr Ring Ding from Germany.
Chameleon is Samora’s second album; the first, Moengo, was released in 2019 while she lived in the Netherlands where she moved to at age 14.
After studying at the Nederlandse Pop Academie in Utrecht, Samora became a part of that city’s live music scene. Initially, she recorded pop songs but her sound evolved to reggae.
In the past five years, Samora has released a number of reggae singles including What You Came For, a collaboration with Lutan Fyah, Jah inna mi Life and Free Up.
