Jamaica reports 158 new COVID cases, one death
KINGSTON, Jamaica — With Jamaica on Friday reporting 158 new cases of the COVID-19, there are now 2,260 confirmed active cases of the virus on the island.
The latest numbers bring the total number of cases recorded on the island since the start of the pandemic to 141,464.
Of the newly reported cases, there were 91females and 67 males with ages ranging from four months to 93 years.
The cases were recorded in Kingston and St Andrew (39), St Catherine (36), Clarendon (15), St James (15), Manchester (11), Westmoreland (11), Trelawny (eight), St Elizabeth (seven), St Thomas (seven), St Ann (five), St Mary (three), and Hanover (one).
Meanwhile, one virus-related death was recorded in the 24-hour period, pushing the death toll to 3,094.
The latest fatality is a 73-year-old male from Portland whose death was recorded in May 2022.
Two more deaths were reported under investigation while another was classified as coincidental.
According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the country also recorded 92 new recoveries bringing the total number of recoveries to 88,657.
The country’s positivity rate from the latest batch of testing is 22 per cent.
Approximately 131 patients have been hospitalised, four of them critically ill.
