All about turtles
CHILDREN at Petersville Early Childhood Institute in Westmoreland were excited to learn about sea turtles as they participated in colouring activities during a sensitisation session at their school.
The session, which was in observation of World Sea Turtle Day, June 16, was organised by Diego Salmon, manager of the Whitehouse Marine Sanctuary, and supported by Sandals Foundation volunteers from Sandals South Coast.
Six of seven different species of sea turtles are considered to be endangered due to various threats from habitat destruction and poaching to pollution and climate change. The Sandals Foundation has aided in turtle conservation efforts that have seen more than 129,000 sea turtles successfully hatched. Sandals Foundation is now actively engaging the next generation in discussions on environmental protection and conservation and encouraging them to live more environmentally conscious lives.
