CHILDHOOD friends Kimone Shaw, Scotiabank Jamaica Limited’s manager, secured lending and Guardian Life Limited’s insurance advisor Kevaughn Tobias are still on cloud nine after saying “I do” on December 21, 2021 at the Orchid Patch Gardens at Craig Bank Estate, Stony Hill in St Andrew.

Although both met while attending the same church, Holiness Christian, with their mothers who were friends, their interactions were few. “We became reacquainted in 2017 when we both started attending the Worship & Faith International Fellowship (WAFIF) church and were assigned to the same incoming membership group. It was at the end of a cell group meeting one evening in 2019, while conducting the closing prayer, that Kevaughn’s interest was piqued by the fervency of my prayer,” Shaw told Tuesday Style Vows (TSV). Their communication became more frequent while getting to know each other and they soon realised that they had mutual interests and goals.

Their friendship would later transition into courtship and on October 23, 2021 Kevaughn proposed to Kimone at a surprise dinner with close family and friends at Opa Greek Restaurant. Of course, she said “Yes!”

Their “happily ever after” climaxed with a garden chic-themed ceremony in the Orchid Patch Gardens at Craig Bank Estate. Kara Ann Anderson and her team from Petals and Promises handled the design deets that featured a circular arch adorned with white, pink, red florals and greenery as props for the garden setting while guests were invited to sit on gold Chiavari chairs with aisle chairs wrapped with sheer ivory ties.

At the altar stood Kevaughn, smart in a burgundy suit with black lapel and an accentuating rhinestone bow tie from Raphael.

To the strains of Ryann Darling’s I Choose You, Kimone started her walk up the aisle on the arm of her brother, Adrian Moss. Her walk to her bridegroom was completed by her mum Beverly Moss.

Kimone was picture-perfect in an ivory, sweetheart neckline mermaid gown, with lace bodice and ruffle skirt, from Helen G Bridal Boutique. Her bouquet comprised ivory roses with burgundy carnations and seeded eucalyptus.

The ceremony was officiated by Bishop Courtney McLean of WAFIF.

The reception

The intimate celebrations continued at the same venue on the Avery Lawns of Craig Bank Estate where the musical styling of the Gappist Band set the tone for the evening. The bride’s mentor and master of ceremonies, Pastor Howard Roach ably handled the formalities which included the unveiling of Crumble By Mrs C’s two-tiered Baileys Chocolate and fruit cake; the groom’s mother Yvonne Tobias and the bride’s mother Beverly Moss unveiling the cake before the official cutting; followed by toasts to the newly-weds and their parents.

The prayer and blessing of the meal were done by Reverend Kenroy Waldo of WAFIF after which guests savoured fare prepared by the formidable Patsy Lyn Caterers.

Further highlights were the couple’s first dance as husband and wife to Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud — the song which was played during the surprise proposal. The bride and her nine-year-old son, Joshua Tucker joined in for the mother-and-son dance to Sade’s By Your Side. Kimone’s bouquet was handed to her sister Kayisha Needham, whose wedding was scheduled for December 29.

The newly-weds and their guests then partied to the tunes of DJ David “The Champyon” Roberts.

The couple honeymooned at Sandals Royal Caribbean.
