SENNA SIZZLES AT DOVER
SENNA Summerbell continued his winning ways in the top leagues of circuit racing when he took another two victories in Thundersport class two (TS2) at Dover Raceway in St Ann on Sunday, August 14.
“It was a great meet. My team and I won two out of three races. This seems to have confirmed us as the new Thundersport class two champions. For me, this is my biggest achievement in my racing career,” Summerbell, 20, told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
The meet, organised by the Jamaica Race Drivers Club, was dubbed Fast & the Furious.
Summerbell — who was driving a Radical SR8 — saw his main competition coming from William Myers who was in a similar vehicle. Myers was first runner-up in the second TS2 race and was first in the final third TS2 race.
Kyle Gregg, the man that started the Radical trend in local auto racing, couldn’t shake mechanical problems despite pre-event testing.
“It was a good and bad race meet for me and my team. The car was the fastest it has ever felt. We just had some bad luck on race day,” explained Gregg.
Breaking two axles and suffering a failed wheel bearing on race day meant Gregg wasn’t really able to challenge for a TS2 race win.
Drivers that had clean sweeps in their class were Antonio Rizza in Improved Production class three (IP3), Akello Morgan in IP2, John Steele in Super Street N, Andrew Massias in Super Street T, and Sara Misir in Modified Production class three (MP3).
Those making two visits to the top step of the podium were Nicholas Barnes (MP2), Ricardo Scott (MP1), and Douglas Gore (MP4). Single race winners were Vijae Mitchell, Andrew Delaphena, and Oreal Larmond, who all shared an IP2 victory each. Tommi Gore took an MP2 win as did Don Gilbert take one MP1 race win. Jamie James was another single race winner in MP4. Jason Ricketts was tops in Motorcycle A and Theron Bagnal in Motorcycle B.
