NHT asks developers to bid for Ruthven Towers phase two
Developers wishing to bid for the opportunity to construct phase two of the Ruthven Towers apartment complex in New Kingston have until November 30 to submit their proposals.
The state-run National Housing Trust (NHT) began advertising for developers in the Sunday newspapers. It said developers must be prepared to construct up to 233 units in at least three towers.
The NHT said the preferred bidder will be expected to construct the towers with exterior matching the existing structure.
The NHT was heavily criticised last year after it was revealed that the units in phase one of the Ruthven Towers development would cost between $27.7 million and $37.7 million. It was argued that the NHT had strayed from its mandate to build affordable housing for Jamaicans.
The furore over the development had thrown phase two in doubt until Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced earlier this month that it was back on track after careful evaluation and the need to satisfy different segments of the housing market.
Nearly 400 applications were received for the phase one development.
