WATA marks Jamaica 60th with $12m in education grants
WATA is marking Jamaica’s 60th anniversary of Independence with a special tribute label and an education initiative for teachers and students.
The water brand, produced by Wisynco, has wrapped its 600 millilitres (ml) bottles in a bright yellow label which boasts the official Jamaica 60 logo.
Also on the label is a pledge to contribute $1 from the sale of each bottle, up to $12 million, to an education initiative which will benefit students and teachers.
“Wisynco was founded in 1965 and is a very proud product of independent Jamaica. We are thankful for our country and express our gratitude by joining in national celebrations wholeheartedly. This is why, for Jamaica 60th we are celebrating with purpose by giving back through the ‘WATA Jamaica 60th Education Initiative’,” said Andrew Mahfood, CEO of the Wisynco Group.
Funds generated from the sale of the tribute labelled 600ml bottles of WATA will go toward the WATA Jamaica 60th Education Initiative, which will provide grants to a number of students and also teachers across the country.
“By choosing WATA, Jamaicans are saying yes to supporting education for Jamaica 60th so they will also help determine how the grants from the Jamaica 60th Education Initiative are allocated. Anyone will be able to nominate students and teachers to receive a grant via the WATA website as of September 1,” said Karen Baugh, group marketing manager.
The special labels, which were rolled out in time for Emancipation Day – August — will remain in circulation for National Heroes Day, October 17 through to October 31. Successful nominees will be notified directly by Wisynco.
WATA is the leading hydration brand in Jamaica and is known for backing youth, education and sports programmes. The brand has been a major partner in Jamaica 60, sponsoring the Grand Gala, Jamaica Cultural Development Commission festival events, as well as other affiliate events and activities around the country.
