PORSCHE TAYCAN GTS: SHEER POWER
The front view of the Porsche Taycan GTS

PORSCHE TAYCAN GTS: SHEER POWER

PORSCHE refers to the Taycan (pronounced tie-kan) GTS as the sweet spot of the Taycan range, as it sits snuggly above its 4S and below the Turbo. But this is just half the story. The Taycan GTS delicately embodies the perfect balance of a high-end luxury sports car and an electric vehicle.

Recently Jamaica Observer‘s weekly Auto magazine had the opportunity to buckle up in the driver’s seat of a frozen blue metallic four-door electric sedan at an event dubbed Miami-Naples Experience held in Florida.

On the outside, there’s no mistaking the Taycan for any other brand but a Porsche. The vehicle’s crouching stance, sloping front, and continuous rear light strip are all distinct stylings. The vehicle sat beautifully on 21″ RS Spyder Design wheels.

Charge ports are located on both the driver’s and front passenger’s sides for convenience. The latter accommodates universal charging, while the former is exclusively for Porsche’s ports.

Inside the cockpit, the EV exudes luxury, with a sporty feel featuring a centre console. The steering wheel feels good in hand and the dashboard boasts all passengers need and more.

Standard to the GTS is the Sports Chrono Package, which offers separate driving modes — Normal, Individual, Range, Sport, and Sport+.

Driver and passenger get comfortable seats (18-way electric as standard) to find that right driving position.

Going through Porsche’s Communication Management and Porsche Connect system, the infotainment is easy to access and navigate. The high resolution 10.9-inch touch screen is responsive and clear at any time of day and quite easy to operate when zooming in on road maps.

A slight touch of the accelerator pedal sees Taycan GTS going from 0-100km in 3.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 250 km/h. It has a total power of 440 kW (598 PS). In my estimation, all the speed and power you’ll ever need. It also has a combined battery range of 439-504 km (273-313 miles).

The Taycan GTS is quick, responsive, and light on its feet.

The Porsche Taycan GTS is also big on safety. Brake Assist, Automatic Headlights with Auto-Levelling, Daytime Running Lights, Automatic High Beams, Traction Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Child Safety Locks, Stability Control, and Front Collision Mitigation are a plus. And air bags are everywhere.

Angel Luis Colon, regional sales manager and exclusive manufacture manager at Porsche Latin America, Inc, gave an overview of the Taycan GTS.

“With electric vehicles being the next best thing for the auto industry, the Taycan is an amazing vehicle,” he told Auto. “It’s just amazing what we’ve been able to do with that vehicle.”

The Taycan GTS is a modern marvel and would definitely hit home with its balancing act of embodying the soul of a proper race car in an electric vehicle.
