Three-time world champion Shericka Jackson has revealed that she would be open to returning to the 400 metres as she has not yet achieved her goals in the event.

During her time as a 400 metres sprinter, Jackson attained gold in the women’s 4×400 metres and bronze in the individual event at the 2015 Beijing World Athletics Championships.

She also won bronze at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games and claimed gold at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru among other accomplishments.

Under the guidance of her coach Paul Francis of the MVP Track and Field Club, however, Jackson made the switch to the sprint double during the 2021 athletics season.

Since then, she has built an impressive resume as she won gold in the 200 metres at the 2022 Oregon World Athletics Championships in a lifetime best, championship and national record and world-leading time of 21.45 seconds.

As such, she etched her name as one of the greatest to contest the event as she became the fastest living woman as well as she recorded the second fastest time in history. Only Florence Griffith Joyner of the United States’ world record of 21.34 seconds has bettered the Jamaican’s time.

Over the 100 metres, she won silver at the Oregon World Championships and has recorded a personal best time of 10.71 seconds which was set at the Monaco Diamond League in August this year. She has also been a part of two Jamaican one-two-three finishes in the event at the 2020 Tokyo Games and the World Championships in Oregon.

The 2022 NACAC gold medallist indicated, however, that she desires to return to the one-lap event at some point in her career, claiming that she has unfinished business where her achievements are concerned.

“For now, I don’t think so, but if I go back to training and coach and I discuss that you’re going back to the 400, I would definitely be up for that task,” she said.

“I don’t think I have achieved my 400 goals as yet, so, therefore, I think I still have unfinished business with the 400,” she added.

Jackson is scheduled to compete in the final of the sprint double at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday, September 8.
