WATCH: Various roadways in Clarendon impassable due to Hurricane Ian
CLARENDON, Jamaica – Various roadways in the central Jamaica parish of Clarendon have been impacted by persistent rain associated with Hurricane Ian.
Among the impacted routes, according to the National Works Agency (NWA), are:
-Trout Hall main road is now impassable;
-Pennants main road is blocked by fallen trees;
-Denbigh to Manchester Avenue Main Road and adjoining streets are flooded. These include Harris Street among other adjoining streets.
-Lower Chapelton to Rock River Road is now impassable due to a breakaway;
-Freetown to Four Paths road at Rasta Corner is flooded; and
-Kupuis to Colonel’s Ridge roadway is impacted by landslide.
The NWA also urged persons to exercise caution in Aenon Town, especially in the vicinity of the Thatch Walk Bridge, due rising water levels along the roadway.
In a release on Monday morning, the Meteorological Service advised that a flash-flood warning is now in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine and Clarendon. It is effective until 5:00 am Tuesday.

It also upgraded the flash-flood watch to a flash-flood warning for low-lying and flood-prone areas of Manchester, St Elizabeth and Westmoreland.
In the meantime, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has advised that an emergency shelter has been activated in Clarendon, at the Western Park Church of Christ.
Hurricane Ian is expected to move northwest across the Caribbean on Monday. Its outer bands have been producing adverse weather conditions across Jamaica since Saturday.
