Announcer’s Trophy up for grabs at Caymanas Park today
If everything goes to plan, then five-year-old American-bred bay mare The Good Witch could pick up her first win on local soil as she lines up against rivals in the $1.14-million Caymanas Park Announcers’ Trophy, the main feature on the 10-race card at Caymanas Park today.
The Good Witch (Tale Of The Cat–Witch Craft) faces 14 rivals in the three-year-old and upward Restricted Overnight Allowance contest over six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m) where any number can play given the nature of the race.
Trained by Adin Williams, The Good Witch has raced eight times so far and has finished second on three occasions, which shows that she has some potential. She ran below expectations on October 8 when finishing down the track in a five-and-a-half furlong (1,100m) race won by Madelyn’s Sunshine.
However, she was far more competitive in her race prior, losing out by a short head to Dejae’s Boy over six furlongs (1,200m) on September 17. The Good Witch has worked well for this race, posting a smooth 1:02.0 for five furlongs on the round course. Given the expected mild pace of this race, The Good Witch could release the maiden tag. Shane Ellis will be in the saddle.
The contest, the 10th and final event for the day, will go to post at 4:50 pm with the first race set to gallop off at 11:30 am.
The likes of Super Duper and Miniature Man from the barn of Jason DaCosta, along with Gary Subratie’s Big Big Daddy, are all in with winning chances.
Super Duper has raced three times at this level, finishing third twice. The four-year-old bay filly last raced on October 22 over the straight course, where she finished third behind upset winner Alexa’s Dream and Sparkle Diamond in a quick 58.3 seconds. Though Super Duper would have preferred this race shorter, the Natural Selection offspring will have to be caught, and if not, she will be unsaddled in the winners’ enclosure.
Her stablemate Miniature Man comes into this race off a two-month break following two disappointing runs. He has been well-freshened and is moving nicely at exercise, Miniature Man could return on a winning note.
Big Big Daddy finished second 4 ½ lengths behind the out-of-class Oneofakind over a mile (1,600m) on October 16. With nothing as good as Oneofakind in the race, Big Big Daddy could prove equal to the task.
