Teenagers included in Reggae Boyz team for Unity Cup
KINGSTON, Jamaica—A number of teenagers have been included in Jamaica’s 24-man squad that was named on Wednesday to take part in the Unity Cup football tournament set to be played in London later this month.
Two members of the national Under-20 team, goalkeeper Joshua Grant and Netherlands-based defender Marlon Van de Wetering, have been included in the team, as well as 16-year-old Manchester City academy player Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri, getting his first call-up.
Additionally, two 19 -year-olds, forward Nick Simmonds and defender Odin Samuels-Smith, were also named by interim head coach Rudolph Speid.
Veteran defender Damion Lowe, who has played 80 times for the Reggae Boyz, is expected to lead the team, while seven locally based players were also included.
Jamaica will play India in one semi-final on May 27 at Charlton Athletic, a day after Nigeria faces Zimbabwe at the same venue.
The winners will meet in the final on the 30th after the third-place play-off between the semi-final losers.
Jamaica were beaten in the final last year by three-time winners Nigeria.
