MBU beat Waterhouse to gain first JPL win
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Montego Bay United (MBU) chalked up their first win of the Jamaica Premier League after holding off Waterhouse FC 1-0 in a close game played at Wespow Park on Sunday.
After coming from behind to earn a 1-1 draw in their opening game against Portmore United at Drax Hall a week ago, the two-time champions collected all three points after Leonardo Fogarthy scored his first goal of the season, in the 29th minute.
Waterhouse FC had won their opening game, beating Molynes United 2-1 but despite creating several scoring chances, failed to break down the MBU defence on Sunday.
Fogarthy and Johann Weatherly, who had come off the bench to change the game against Portmore, earned a starting spot on Sunday and it paid off for coach Donovan Duckey.
Weatherly created the chance after he scampered down the right flank and cut inside but his shot was blocked by Waterhouse FC goalkeeper Kemar Foster but only into the path of Fogarthy who shot it back past the custodian into the low left corner of the goal.
In other results on Sunday, Molynes United beat Humble Lion 3-2 and Cavalier FC beat Vere United 3-0.
