SIX more road crash deaths were reported Sunday.

Four people — two men and two women — died following a two-vehicle crash on the Palisadoes main road in Kingston.

The crash, which occurred early in the morning, involved a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV and a Toyota Probox motor car, according to the Kingston East police.

Two other people were injured in the incident, the police said.

Also on Sunday, two people died as a result of injuries sustained in crashes in St Elizabeth. The deceased from the first incident has been identified as 17-year-old Jaheim Calbert, who was a resident of Harmony Lane in Santa Cruz.

A police report said, about 12:05 am, Calbert was driving a Nissan Note motor car easterly on the Gilnock main road near Santa Cruz which collided with a Subaru Legacy motor car travelling in the opposite direction.

Calbert and the two occupants of the Subaru sustained injuries and were taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The others were admitted for treatment.

In the second incident, police identified the deceased as 32-year-old Kadian Hylton, a resident of Spring Park in St Elizabeth.

The six deaths Sunday pushed the total number of road fatalities for this year to 450, close to the recorded amount last year.

The latest statistics provided by the Road Safety Unit (RSU) showed that up to December 9, 444 people died in 386 fatal collisions, while there were 487 road fatalities in 2021.

Among the fatalities, 134 were motorcyclists, 96 were pedestrians and 80 were private motor car drivers. Further statistics revealed that 85 per cent were male and 15 per cent were female.

A representative from the RSU declined to comment on the road crashes on Sunday, noting that investigations were ongoing.
