Genesis concert returns today
Gospel recording artiste Kevin Downswell is hoping that persons attending the Genesis 2023 concert series will be touched by the ministering from the various performers on the line-up.
Genesis 2023 is scheduled for January 1 from 5:00 pm at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew and from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am at the Montego Bay Community College Auditorium in St James.
“I really want patrons to come with their expectations anchored on what God will do, not on me as the performer. I am coming expecting God to move in their lives, so I’d encourage us all to fix our gaze on the King of Kings, as we watch Him work. If we come ready to truly worship, He will show up,” Downswell told the Jamaica Observer.
Genesis is now in its 37th year. According to coordinator Kumar Guyah of Jamaica Youth For Christ, people are drawn to the event because of its Christian entertainment value.
“Genesis arose from Jamaica Youth Christ and has thrived throughout the years due to the passion and dedication of people who work tirelessly behind the scenes with our stakeholders, sponsors, board members, volunteers, and churches. People are drawn to Genesis because it delivers good Christian entertainment for the entire family. It’s a jam-packed evening of praise, worship, laughter, and wonderful feelings as we ring in the new year,” said Guyah.
He said the objectives of the event have been achieved.
“Yes, our objectives have been achieved. The ultimate goal of Genesis is to reach out to the Christian community, particularly youngsters, through the performing arts which include singing and dancing, etc and to create a platform for established and upcoming gospel artistes.”
He added, “Patrons can expect an evening full of praise and worship, fellowship, fun, entertainment, positive vibes, and food.”
Downswell, who has performed at Genesis on multiple occasions, is happy to be on the Genesis 2023 line-up.
“It’s a blessing to be on the line-up with these wonderful performers and I am grateful,” said Downswell whose most recent single Reggae Christmas Medley was released in December.
Among the performers confirmed for Genesis 2023 Kingston staging are Downswell, DJ Nicholas, Samuel Medas from Guyana, Goddy Goddy, Rian Davis, Orville Sutherland, Petra Kaye, John Mark Wiggan, Trevelle Clarke Whyne, Perpetual Sounds of Praise, and Gifted Youth Ministry.
Downswell leads the line-up for the Montego Bay staging alongside Sutherland, Davis, Leonell Teape, Jai Kingston, Rhoda Isabella, Carey Sayles, Sudania B, Yvonne Cohen, Christina Kerr Cleghorn, and Shaundre Cowan.
