Woman climbs bridge, helped down by cops, residents in May Pen
MAY PEN, Clarendon — Police and residents in Clarendon breathed a sigh of relief Tuesday afternoon after a woman climbed the May Pen Bridge but eventually came down.
The police have since learnt that the woman, who is from Mount Clair in May Pen, was a mental health patient.
It was reported that about 1:30 pm, the woman was seen climbing the bridge by residents who summoned the authorities.
The police, on arrival, saw a female dressed in a pink blouse, blue jeans pants, and barefooted, on the bridge, with several residents talking to her.
She was encouraged to come down slowly and began to comply. But while coming down, she began to shake as if she was having a seizure and was assisted down by the police with the help of residents.
Police said after coming down, she became unresponsive and was assisted to the May Pen Hospital.
While on the way, she regained consciousness and gave her name and address to the police. But while at the hospital, she was identified by a man who called her mother.
The woman’s purported mother then arrived and gave the police a completely different name from what the woman had given. The purported mother also revealed that the woman was a patient of the hospital’s mental health clinic. Subsequent checks by the hospital staff confirmed that information.
The police left the woman in the care of the hospital.
