God of Love given the nod in Reggae Month Trophy
A field of six talented runners forms the field in the $1.29-million Reggae Month Trophy, the main feature contest for three-year-olds and upwards at the Open Allowance level going 5 furlongs straight on the nine-race programme tomorrow, Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Caymanas Park.
The Supreme Racing Guide takes a close look at each runner and their chances of winning what is the seventh race event.
This analysis is done in draw order.
1. LABAN: (6 h h by Sensational Slam – For Trixie) – Consistent runner who has won twice from seven starts over this distance. Laban was an easy length and a half winner over 7 furlongs (1,400m) on November 20 of last year in a time of 1:26.1. However, that was in the class below, but Laban, who is making his seasonal debut, is more than capable of doing well, especially coming off a break.
2. CURLIN’S AFFAIR: (5 ch h by Perfect Curlin – Nuclear Affair) – Not doing that badly in his races with a couple of fourth place finishes in his last two outings. Curlin’s Affair won over this distance, which he seems to enjoy, in January, defeating Prncsshootingstar by a length and a half in 58.2 seconds. If he can repeat that performance, Curlin’s Affair should make this race very interesting for the favourites. With the draw position not an issue, Curlin’s Affair is poised to make his presence felt.
3. DUKE: (7 gr h by Casual Trick – Lady MacBeth) – Has been, competitive, as always, in his races. Duke has raced three times this season, finishing second twice and third once. On February 4, he finished third behind Mahogany and She’s My Destiny over 6 1/2 furlongs (1,300 m) in the Eileen Cliggott Memorial Cup. Duke, given race conditions and his running style, could lead home rivals but he has to be at his very best to achieve his 14th career victory.
4. LURE OF LUCY (USA): (5 b m by Uncle Lino – Ring of Faith) – Capable foreign who has won six races from 22 starts on local soil. Lure of Lucy will be travelling this distance for the first time, but she is full of class and talent and could play a significant role in the eventual outcome. Lure of Lucy finished third in the Alexander Hamilton Trophy (6 furlongs – 1,200 m) on January 28, just 2 1/4 lengths behind I’ve Got Magic and Duke. Prior to that, she made one move to win the Fan Appreciation Day Trophy over 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on January 2.
5. GOD OF LOVE: (7 bc by Adore the Gold – Shanda D) – One of the leading contenders to take down this trophy race. God of Love finished third by just 2 1/4 lengths behind I’ve Got Magic and Duke in the St Catherine Cup over six furlongs on January 14 in his only start of the year. Although second-placed Duke is present, God of Love is more than capable of turning the tables around and beating the rest of the field, as well.
6. TAURUS BOY (USA): (5 b h by Speighster – MC Duffie) – A winner on last who is going to find it very difficult repeating as he is stepping up in grade and now faces much stiffer opposition. He should learn from this outing.
