Outbidder reaches the Overnight Allowance Grade

Following Outbidder‘s impressive win in a non-winners of four contest on Saturday, February 11, 2023, trainer Jason DaCosta said the record $6.1-million yearling sale purchase has enough class and talent to do herself justice in the higher classes.

Bred by Savoy Stomp out of the Graeme Hall mare Rumble, Outbidder, ridden by Omar Walker, romped to her second consecutive victory when making all in a Restricted Allowance III event for native-bred four-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of four) and a non-three for imported horses going 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m).

“I am very pleased with the win by Outbidder. It was a perfect ride by Omar Walker, and I am happy. She came back from her injuries and put together two good performances, and hopefully she keeps on improving and has a nice season this year,” DaCosta said in his post-race interview.

She [Outbidder] is in Overnight Allowance company now, and the waters get rougher and deeper, so it’s not going to be easy, but hopefully she will improve and she will be competitive at Overnight and Open Allowance levels,” DaCosta continued.

When the starter pressed the button to open the starting gates, Outbidder shot to the front, taking a slim lead over stablemates She’s My Friend (Anthony Allen) and Tekapunt (Roger Hewitt) down the backstretch.

When Walker let loose the reins on Outbidder, the four-year-old bay filly upped the tempo and increased her lead while navigating the home turn ahead of Our Angel (Robert Halledeen) and Tekapunt, who overtook a fading Wowza (Anthony Thomas).

Turning for home with no real challenger to test her, Outbbider powered home to win by 8 lengths. Tekapunt finished second and Our Angel came home in third place.

Outbidder, who is owned by champion Carlton Watson and was registering her fourth career win from eight starts, ran the distance in a decent 1:34.4 (24.1 x 47.4 x 1:12.3).
