March 7, 2023

Wednesday, March 8, 2023

The diplomatic corps dinner, held Thursday last at King’s House, brought the week of activities, February 27 — March 3, to a stately end. Indeed, it was the first time, since the forced closure of borders in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, that Jamaica was welcoming both resident and non-resident ambassadors for the event.

The dinner, hosted by consummate host Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, is one that diplomats look forward to, as it affords them an opportunity to interact with their peers.

In his address to members of the corps, Allen stated that diplomats remain on the front lines of international relations, to help “build trust and understanding between nations, who must work tirelessly to find common ground in the face of competing interests and conflicting priorities”.

The evening commenced with a welcome cocktail reception ahead of each delegate being received by the governor general, and then a formal dinner courtesy of the Jamaica Pegasus hotel.
