Eyes West — a proud mom and her five boys
Newly graduated police constable Philip West (second left) honours his proud mom, Cassanda Quarrie-West, by putting his cap on her head, shortly after his recent passing-out parade from the National Police College of Jamaica, Twickenham Park, in St Catherine.
There to give him support were his other siblings (from left) Mark West, haulage contractor; Chris West, sales professional; Luke West, aspiring artist; and Matthew West, electrical engineering supervisor, all from Old Harbour, St Catherine. Cassandra West, who is manager for the May Pen branch of Quality Dealers Limited, formerly QD & Ace, said she was happy that Phillip, one of a batch of 285 constables who graduated, wanted to serve his country in an area of great need. The fact that four of her five boys are named after biblical characters indicates her strong belief in the Christian faith. Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson said the new batch of recruits means that the Jamaica Constabulary Force is now nearing 13,000 officers.
