#CariftaGames2023: No Jamaicans in men’s U20 100m final at CARIFTA
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica will not be represented in the Boys’ Under -20 100m final on Saturday’s first day of the 50th CARIFTA Games at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in the Bahamas.
The expected rematch between Jamaica’s gold medallists DeAndre Daley and silver medalist Bouwahjgie Nkrumi failed to materialise on what has been a nightmare first day for the Jamaican team.
Hours after Nkrumi pulled up in the first round, Daley was disqualified in the semi-finals for a false start.
Daley, who was second to Nkrumi in both the CARIFTA Games Trials and the ISSA Boys’ Champs, appeared to slip in the blocks and was ejected from the event.
Jamaica will be well represented in the other three finals however, with Alana Reid- 11.50 seconds and Alexis James – 11.80 second both qualifying in the Under-20 girls; Natrece East ran 11.83 seconds (-0.3m/s) in her semi-finals of the Under -17 girls, but Tiana Marshall- 12.16 seconds (1.0m/s) did not advance.
Tramaine Todd leads qualifiers in the Under – 17 boys with 10.55 (-0.4m/s), but Khamani Gordon did not show up for his race.
