17-y-o among four people charged with breaches of the dangerous drugs act

PORTLAND, Jamaica – Four people, including a 17-year-old girl, were arrested and charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act following the seizure of nine pounds of ganja on the Nut Hall main road in Portland on Saturday.

Charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and trafficking ganja are: Jordon Brown, a 19-year-old construction worker; Gary Rodgers, 44-year-old taxi operator; Nicola Wilson, 39-year-old farmer of Burnt Savanna, all in St Elizabeth and, a 17-year-old girl from Lionel Town in Clarendon.

Reports from the Port Antonio police are that they were conducting a vehicular checkpoint operation in the area when they signalled the driver of a Toyota Voxy minibus to stop. The driver disobeyed the instructions of the officers. However, the vehicle was intercepted on the Stony Hill main road and a search was conducted and the drugs were seized.

The occupants of the vehicle were subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the seizure.

Their court date is being finalised.
