Too Much Man A Dead
With over 200 murders recorded since the start of 2023, there are signs of another bloody year in store for Jamaica.
I Stitch, Danny English and Supah Gong took note of that grim projection in Too Much Man A Dead.
Co-produced by Everton “Caveman” Moore and Jon “JonFX” Crawford, the song was released in March to mark Women’s International Month.
“The message is as plain as the title. Is always mothers feel it the most, and as the ones to know what a child’s birth is they shouldn’t be suffering no more from what’s happening,” said I Stitch.
During a discussion about the current spate of homicides, he and Supah Gong decided to record a song addressing the carnage. While sharing a recording session with Danny English at Caveman’s East Kingston studio, he [I Stitch] suggested the latter come up with “a solid verse” to complete the track.
Too Much Man a Dead is from Fix Tape Mix, I Stitch’s first album which was released in 2021. Most of its 14 songs are produced by Caveman, his father and mentor.
I Stitch is from east Kingston, which has a number of communities prone to violence since the politically-divisive 1970s. He notes that the message of Too Much Man A Dead is not limited to Jamaica.
“My thoughts on the crime situation is not only in Jamaica but the world and to all world leaders. Is only one don, and that is [Emperor] Selassie I, then yuh have Marcus Garvey and women. So please stop making our thoughts corrupt, and reset the mindset to take care of the universe,” he said.
