Live and Dangerous is ’12’ loud
Peter Tosh’s Live and Dangerous revisits the Billboard chart
Upon its release in 2001, Live and Dangerous: Boston 1976 by Peter Tosh debuted and peaked at #12 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
The concert, which was recorded live on November 26, 1976 at the end of Tosh’s first American tour, concentrated on material from his Legalize It album.
Sly and Robbie with Earl Lindo on keyboards and guitarists Al Anderson and Donald Kingsey were part of the backing band.
Live and Dangerous returns to the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, re-entering at #4. The set benefited from the Record Store Day promotion which saw vinyl albums being re-released at discounted prices.
This is Tosh’s sixth album to chart on the Billboard tally. The others are Scrolls of the Prophet: Best of Peter Tosh (#4 in 2000), Super Hits (#7 in 2002), Honorary Citizen (#5 in 1997), Complete Captured Live (peaked at #2 in 2022) and Live at The One Love Peace Concert (#12 in 2000).
Ziggy Startdub by the collective Easy Star All Stars is new on this week’s chart at #9. It is the fourth charting title for the Easy All Stars. The project features songs by Macy Gray, Steel Pulse, Maxi Priest, Naomi Cowan, Mortimer and Samory-I, among others.
It is a reggae re-imaging of David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust.
Also new on the chart at #10 is The Upsetter at the Starhouse Sessions by The Orb featuring Lee “Scratch” Perry. This is the 18th entry on the chart for Perry, who died two years ago.
Bob Marley and the Wailers cling on to the #1 spot for 172 non-consecutive weeks with Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers.
Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection spends another week at #2, while Dutty Classics Collection by Sean Paul is steady at three.
Greatest Hits by UB40 dips to five, while World on Fire, Wisdom and Set in Stone by Stick Figure are #6, #7, #8 respectively.
Moving now to the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart, Beautiful Day by Jermaine Edwards x Rushawn and Prinz backtracks from 18 to 20 having peaked at #7 almost three months ago.
Beautiful Day slips from #7 to #10 on the Billboard Gospel Digital Song Sales chart.
Tic Tac Toe by Rvssian, Valiant and Tommy Lee Sparta rules the #1 spot on the Hot 104.1 FM Most Requested songs chart in Cayman for a second week. Soca Universe by Skinny Fabulous and Nailah Blackman is #2, while Forever by Dexta Daps is #3. Doing Better by Marion Hall and Driver by Romain Virgo are #4 and #5.
In Canada, the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae chart sees Reggae Party by JUNO Award winners Kirk Diamond, Finn and Kairo McLean holding down the #1 spot.
Highway to Heaven by Carlene Davis is the new #1 on the South Florida Reggae chart.
I Am Not That Guy by Ed Robinson steps up from #9 to #5, while I Know Your Story by G Cole moves from #11 to #8.
New entries are Afrobeat Medley by The Greaves Brothers (#23) and Love Like No Other by Rod Spence (#25).
Meanwhile, over on the New York Reggae chart, Desperate Lover by Tarrus Riley clocks another week in the #1 spot.
Beautiful Woman by Glen Washington bolts from #11 to #9, while Driver by Romain Virgo rides from #20 to #16.
