STETHS, Tacky clash for ISSA T20 title
BARNES...to make 100 against May Day is a good feeling; knowing they have a good bowling attack, it gives me confidence.

STETHS, Tacky clash for ISSA T20 title

The semi-finalists in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association Twenty20 (T20) cricket competition are to be decided on Saturday after the final round of Super 8 matches.

In Group One, last season’s beaten finalists St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), the only team to gain a perfect 10 points after two wins in as many outings, take aim at Tacky High (five points) in a clash at Ultimate Oval in St Ann. Start time is set for 1:30 pm.

In the scheduled 9:30 am curtain-raiser at Ultimate Oval, defending champions Wolmer’s Boys’ (five points) face May Day High (six points) in a much-anticipated Group Two clash.

At Kensington Oval in Kingston, Manchester High (six points) are down to battle out-of-contention St George’s College (zero point) in a 9:30 am Group Two contest, while at 1:30 pm Excelsior High (five) and St Jago High (zero) square off in Group One.

Manchester High left-hand batsman Brian Barnes was among the most outstanding performers in second round last Saturday, smashing 124 not out for the hosts in the rain-ruined match against fellow Mandeville-based school May Day.

Matthew Morgan was also brilliant, hitting a whirlwind 94 as Manchester racked up 239-1 but wet weather prevented May Day from launching a reply, leaving the teams to share the spoils.

Score: Manchester 239-1.

Barnes, while boosted by his individual display, rued they were not able to push for victory.

“To make a hundred against May Day is a good feeling, knowing they have a good bowling attack, it gives me confidence. But we wanted to go at them with the ball as well and to get them out… that didn’t happen,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

In the day’s early match at Manchester High, Excelsior beat Tacky by 30 runs.

Scores: Excelsior 134-3; Tacky 104-9.

At Melbourne Oval, STETHS romped to a 65-run win over St Jago.

Scores: STETHS 144-5; St Jago 79.

In the afternoon match at Melbourne Oval, Wolmer’s trounced St George’s by 148 runs.

Scores: Wolmer’s 200-4; St George’s 52.
