Songbird of Sandals Montego Bay
Dwright Kerr cheerfully goes about his duties as he ensures that the resort's public spaces are impeccable.

Songbird of Sandals Montego Bay

MONTEGO BAY, St James – Though it is expected that a resort’s entertainment team is responsible for delighting guests with their melody, one man from the housekeeping department at Sandals Montego Bay embraces the resort’s mantra of “giving guests more than they expect”. Dwright Kerr is the songbird of the resort and is known throughout as the man who croons as he cleans.

“I’ve been singing all my life. I was in the choir as a little boy and while in high school. Growing up I used singing as a means of encouragement. It wasn’t always easy for me to find the motivation every day but keeping a song in my heart has kept me going,” noted Kerr.

Kerr is described by his peers as a ray of light who brightens everyone’s day with his infectious spirit.

“It’s impossible to know Dwright and not love him. He is such a good-natured young man who lifts everyone up and always has a bright smile on his face. We appreciate him and his conscious efforts to remain kind and work hard despite the odds,” said Kerr’s manager, Executive Housekeeper Patricia Grant.

With his signature brilliant smile Dwright Kerr (left) greets Sandals Montego Bay General Manager Christopher Elliott.

The songbird of Sandals Montego Bay has earned numerous awards from the management team in various capacities throughout his seven years at the resort.

“I am humbled to have received so much from my team. I’ve won the 2022 People’s Choice Award at our annual Prestige awards, monthly Diamond Team Member award, Earth Guardian award, and Circle of Joy award,” Kerr reminisces fondly. “Most recently, my general manager also chose me to represent the resort as a ‘Dream Big’ ambassador.”

The Dream Big Ambassador programme forms part of Sandals Resorts’ new Way Forward Initiative that encourages and incentivises team members for sharing ideas on how Sandals Resorts International (SRI) can improve as a company. It is a task Kerr does not take lightly.

He is especially proud of being tapped to participate in Sandals’ Task Force Programme which integrates and immerses team members from all its resorts, into the rich culture of neighbouring Caribbean islands in which it operates. The programme provides team members with the opportunity to train, travel and act as regional ambassadors for the Luxury-Included® brand.

“The very first time I went on a plane was because of Sandals, and from that opportunity I was able to give back to my parents, who have sacrificed so much for me. That was the best feeling in the world,” said Kerr.

He has ambitions of growing within Sandals.

“I’m working towards becoming a butler and, eventually, the next general manager of this establishment. I’ve been using the Sandals Corporate University to complete communication and management courses as well as several other courses in customer service, which I’m passionate about. I want to use my love of singing and Sandals to make an impact in the hospitality industry,” he said.

General manager at Sandals Montego Bay Christopher Elliott also sang high praises of Kerr. “Dwright is an outstanding team member and someone whose talents we look forward to nurturing,” he said. “He epitomises a level of excellence that we encourage our team members to strive for and I have no doubt that he will go even further in Sandals,” Elliott said.
