KINGSTON, Jamaica -The National Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) Movement of Jamaica is calling for a period of mourning following the murder of eight-year-old, Danielle Rowe.

In a release on Saturday following news that Rowe had succumbed to the injuries she sustained after she was abducted and her throat slashed, a call to wear black was made.

“I am calling on all 19 divisions of the NHW Movement to take a stand in your divisions on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 12 noon to 2:00pm, let us wear black as we mourn,” Dr Asha Mwendo, president of the group, appealed.

“We must let it be known that we will never accept nor normalise criminality in any of its forms. We say no to the murdering of our children…,” the statement further read.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the Braeton Primary student died on Saturday morning, ending the hopes of many that she would have survived.

Reports are that on Thursday, Rowe was taken from the school she attended in St Catherine in a motor car, transported to Vineyard Town in St Andrew and thrown from the vehicle.

Mwendo, says the movement is “saddened and angry” at the tragic situation.

She extended the call to all Jamaicans to stand against all forms of crimes that continue to impact Jamaica.

“We are calling on all well thinking Jamaicans to stand up, be militant and not only say we are tired of hearing news like this but actively take a stand in the reduction and elimination of crime and violence from the fabric of our nation,” she further stated.
