Atomica for win number two in 2023
SIX runners are down to compete in the second staging of the Clovis Metcalfe Trophy, a three-year-old and upward Open Allowance contest going 7½ furlongs (1,500m) on tomorrow’s (July 1) 10-race card.
Below is the analysis of the runners.
1. EXCESSIVE FORCE (USA): (6 ch h by Broken Vow – Fevered Kiss) – Scratched on his intended debut on June 17. Excessive Force last raced on December 31 in the Ian Levy Cup during which he finished third behind stablemates Mahogany and Jordon Reign’s over 8½ furlongs (1,700m). Excessive Force should report here in good nick, and based on his class and talent is expected to challenge for top honours.
2. LABAN: (6 b h by Sensational Slam – For Trixie) – Difficult seeing Laban winning this one.
3. MINIATURE MAN: (5 ch g by Northern Giant – Runaway Gal) – Finished a good third behind his stablemates She’s My Destiny and King Arthur going 5½ furlongs (1,100m) on June 24. Miniature Man is going to enjoy this distance more and could run another pleasing race.
4. POWER RANKING: (4 b c by Casual Trick – Escandalosa) – Is not expected to trouble the main competitors.
5. PERFECT BREW: (4 b c by Bern Identity – Moonlight Brew) – Won the Alsafra Trophy over one mile (1,600m) on June 10. Perfect Brew steps up to compete but in this small field he is expected to run well.
6. ATOMICA: (4 ch f by Nuclear Wayne – Honkeytonkville) – The Horse of the Year who returns for her third start for the season. Atomica easily defeated rivals in the Labour Day Trophy by 9 lengths over seven furlongs (1,400m) on May 23. Atomica won in a time of 1:24.4 and, based on that run, she can definitely win again.
