Pan Am U-20 bronze for Pottinger in high jump
KINGSTON, Jamaica – World Under-20 champion Brandon Pottinger won a bronze medal in the men’s high jump in Sunday’s morning session of the Pan-American track and field championships held at Estadio José Antonio Figueroa, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
Pottinger cleared a season’s best 2.11m as he finished third behind two Americans – Grant Campbell who took the gold with 2.19m, and Brion Stephens who was second with 2.17m.
Meanwhile, only Lavanya Williams, of the three Jamaicans who contested the heats of the 200m, advanced to the finals set for later in the day.
Williams claimed the final spot in the women’s race after running 24.99 (0.9m/s) while her teammate Mickaila Haisley just missed the final, finishing ninth overall with 25.10 seconds (-0.5m/s).
Nickoy Drummond was 10th overall in the men’s race after running 21.46 seconds (1.0m/s).
