Digicel launches Vacation SIM at JAPEX

As Jamaica continues to be the destination of choice for tourists, Digicel has announced the availability of its new Vacation SIM, a prepaid SIM card loaded with data and minutes for visitors to the island.

The sim cards were unveiled at the Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX) trade show in Montego Bay, St James on Tuesday. The Digicel Vacation SIM is now available for ordering on the company’s website, shop.digicelgroup.com/jm.

Digicel Vacation SIM is sold as a package containing a multi-size three-in-one physical SIM card (standard, micro, and nano sizes) and eSIM with pre-set allotments of data and minutes for three-day, seven-day, and 28-day use, starting at US$12. Vacation SIM orders can be collected at the visitor’s place of stay (hotel, shared residence/AirBNB, or private dwelling). By inserting the SIM card in an unlocked smartphone, customers then follow a few simple steps to get connected to the Digicel network. Visitors with SIM-unlocked e-SIM capable phones that do not require a physical SIM are required to follow the instructions on the website for instant set-up (esim.digicelgroup.com).

“We are delighted to be using the power of the Digicel network and our value-packed Vacation SIM to add to the great buzz about Jamaica as a preferred destination,” commented Tari Lovell, chief marketing officer for Digicel.

He added: “Seamless, affordable mobile connectivity is increasingly becoming a necessity for travellers looking for convenient and cost-effective ways to stay in touch with friends and family back home. This is our way of elevating the visitor experience and enhancing Jamaica’s appeal as a must-visit destination,” he added.

In welcoming the launch of the Digicel Vacation SIM at the JAPEX trade, tourism minister Edmund Bartlett highlighted the importance of digital innovation and technology in defining the delivery of services and experiences to visitors.

“Technology points the way to the future of experiences, access and connectivity within tourism. Jamaica is embracing cutting-edge technology in driving the future of our tourism experience,” he said.

President of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, Robin Russell also welcomed the Digicel Vacation SIM.

“Connectivity is very important. When you look at how guests are rating their experiences within a vacation, they consider accommodation first, and data connectivity second. When a company like Digicel launches a product that allows connectivity even outside of Wi-Fi, it is something we fully endorse and is something we know will enhance the tourism product. We’re looking forward to working very closely with Digicel to make it a success,” Russell stated.
