Gray’s Inn, Petersfield complete Championships play-off semis

Gray’s Inn SC of St Mary and Petersfield FC of Westmoreland have completed the semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Championships play-offs after wins over Wifi United SC and Reggae Youths respectively in Sunday’s final set of first round games.

Gray’s Inn SC won their game 3-1 to top Group B while Petersfield FC were 3-2 winners in Group D and they will join Group A winners Seaforth SC of St Thomas and Group C winners St Bess United of St Elizabeth in the semi-finals set for this coming weekend.

Winners of both semi-finals and the winners of the third place play-offs, all set to be played at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence will earn promotion to the Championships which will start later in the season.

Meanwhile, Duanvale United hammered Sandy Bay United 6-0 in a Group D game while Villa United edged Cross United 1-0 in a Zone C game of academic interest only.

On Sunday, Gray’s Inn SC beat Wifi United SC for the second time this season after edging the Portland team 3-2 in the first round and topped the zone with 10 points, four more than WiFi.

Petersfield FC just got to the semis ahead of Duanvale FC who beat Sandy Bay 6-0 as they tallied 14 points to the Trelawny team’s 13 with Reggae Youths in third place on seven points.

O’Shawn Neil scored all three goals for Petersfield FC while Santino Grinnion scored both for Reggae Youths who for the second time this season had a significant lead over the Westmoreland team.

In their first round meeting Petersfield FC came back from three goals down in the first half to earn a point from a 3-3 draw and were trailing 0-2 after 54 minutes before Neil produced three goals, scoring in the 60th, 76th and 85th minutes.

Duanvale FC held a slim 1-0 lead from the first half before scoring five goals in a 23 minutes period in the second half with Oshane Brown completing a hat trick, scoring in the 38th, 68th and 72nd minutes, Kenroy Brown had a double with goals coming in the 75th and 87th minutes with Chavaughn Barnett also scoring in the 64th minute.
