Frome, Rusea’s and Garvey Maceo advance in d’Cup

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Three former champions, Frome Technical High, Rusea’s High and Garvey Maceo High booked their places in the second round of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition after contrasting results on Thursday.

Frome Technical and Rusea’s High sewed up the two automatic spots from Zone B, while Garvey Maceo cannot finish lower than second in Zone M after they were awarded points when Tacius Golding failed to show up for their game.

The trio brings to five the number of schools that have already secured their spots in the second round joining Morant Bay High and Happy Grove High.

Frome Technical hammered Cambridge High 8-1 in their Zone B return round game at Frome as Dwyane Watt and Obrien Reid scored two goals each, while Stevaughn Spence, Akeem Kongal, Mario Samms and Kemar Beckford also scored.

Frome, who moved to 18 points from seven games, took over the lead in Zone B after Rusea’s High lost their perfect win record after being held to a 0-0 draw by Green Island High and improved to 16 points from six games and neither can be caught by any other team in the zone.

Garvey Maceo were awarded points after Tacius Golding failed to show up for the continuation of their game that was interrupted on Tuesday when they led 7-0 and improved to 16 points and can finish no lower than second in their zone.
