EPL: Arsenal take on hot Man City
The champions and last season’s runners-up clash in the Premier League when Arsenal host treble-winning Manchester City on Sunday. However, prior to this highly anticipated clash, red-hot Tottenham who ended Liverpool’s undefeated start to the season, thanks to an already-infamous VAR clanger, will travel to Luton Town aiming to continue their unbeaten start to the season.
Event # 1 – EPL – Luton vs Tottenham – 6:30 AM
Entering their postponed match against Burnley on cloud nine in midweek, having achieved their first-ever Premier League away win against Everton last weekend, they were brought back down to earth when they were beaten by Burnley who themselves were securing their first win in the Premier League since gaining promotion. The defeat to Burnley meant that Luton became the first team in 13 years to fail to win any of their opening three Premier League home matches. And with the in-form Tottenham visiting, Luton might have to wait a while longer for their first home win of the season.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have been brilliant this season, and are just a single point behind leaders Manchester City in the league table. Alongside Arsenal, Tottenham are the only other unbeaten team left in the Premier League at this stage, winning five and drawing two of their first seven matches. Indeed, their last outing saw them controversially beating nine-man Liverpool in another show of how far they have come since the departure of their former captain Harry Kane, and the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as their new manager. With that said, if Tottenham are to seriously challenge for the title this season, then they simply have to beat a Luton side that have lost five of their last seven matches so far this season and are winless in their opening three home matches.
Key Stats
●Luton – Luton are yet to win a match at home since the start of the season and have won just once from their opening six matches.
●Tottenham – Tottenham are unbeaten so far this season and have won twice on the road while drawing once.
●Both sides – The two sides have not met since the 1991/92 season, with Tottenham winning 4-1 at home, while they drew 0-0 at Luton Town.
The betting Tip. Tottenham win.
Event # 2 EPL – Arsenal vs Manchester City – 10:30 AM
Arsenal will host Manchester City on Sunday. Arsenal, the Gunners, will be seeking their first win over Manchester City at home since 2015. Arsenal have a poor record against Man City, having lost their last 12 head-to-head clashes in the league. However, the last time both teams met, Arsenal came out on the winning end, defeating City on penalties in the 2023 FA Community Shield to start the new Premier League season. With that said, Arsenal will be seeking redemption following a surprising 2-1 defeat to French side Lens in Champions League midweek action. But, despite losing in Europe, Arsenal remains one of two unbeaten sides left in the Premier League following their 4-0 battering of a hapless Bournemouth last weekend.
What a difference a week can make! Some were labelling it a “mini crisis” when Manchester City suffered back-to-back defeats against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup and Wolves in the Premier League. But a confident 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League away in Germany in midweek, paired with the return of a couple of first-team stalwarts in Bernardo Silva and John Stones, has changed the picture. However, defeat to Arsenal could see Man City being ousted from top spot in the league as they only lead the Gunners and Tottenham by a single point, and are two points ahead of Liverpool, which makes this game a real spectacle with Arsenal hell-bent on ending their poor run of form against Man City. With that said, this might be the best opportunity that Arsenal have had in a long time to beat City as that team is without its most influential player Kevin de Bruyne, who is out with a long-term injury. And, the most important thing Arsenal have going for them this season is their renewed grit to not lose games without a fight. However, toppling a confident Manchester City side is easier said than done as City completed the league double over Arsenal last year, and have won eight of the last nine against the Gunners in all competitions.
Key Stats
●Arsenal – Arsenal have seen both teams score in 11 of their last 13 home matches in the Premier League.
•Man. City – Man City have seen both teams score in 7 of their last 10 matches in the Premier League.
•
•Both sides – Arsenal have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 2 matches against Man City in the Premier League and are winless against Manchester City in their last 12 matches.
The betting Tip. Draw.
