American Tap gets the nod in Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup feature
The Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup, an Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward going 5 furlongs (1,000m), is the feature event on tomorrow’s nine-race card.
Below, the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide analyses the 15 runners entered and their chance of winning the major share of the $1.25-million purse on offer.
1. A Gift From Ben: (4 ch f by Here Comes Ben – Sage’s Giftbox) – Going to have a very difficult time getting by runners from this number one post.
2. RACE CAR (USA): (6 gr/rn h by Race Day – Mc Duffie) – Finished fourth by over 8 lengths behind I’ve Got Magic over 6 furlongs (1,200m) on September 23. However, prior to that run, Race Car was just beaten into third place by 2 lengths by Rojorn Di Pilot and I’ve Got Magic over this distance on September 2. Race Car has worked fairly for this race and could get into the mix of things here.
3. KWAKU: (5 b h by Casual Trick – Darlin) – Has no realistic chance of winning here.
4. MADELYN’S SUSHINE (USA): (4 dk b/b f by Joe’s Son Joey – Madelyn’s Finest) – Returns to competitive racing from a 147-day break. Madelyn’s Sunshine last raced on May 27 and finished in eighth place behind Emperorofthcats over tomorrow’s distance. Madelyn’s Sunshine steps down here to compete and is going to make a telling effort.
5. CATABA: (5 ch m by Lion Tamer – Tooting Kat) – Is going to be left behind in this one.
6. DUKE: (7 gr h by Casual Trick – Lady McBeth) – Was expected to lead home rivals in the Vassell Najair Memorial Cup when stepping down at this level on October 8. Instead, Duke finished second by 2 lengths behind Freedom Street going 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m). Duke goes well over the straight course and given his running style, he is expected to challenge for the top here.
7. SUPER DUPER: (5 b m by Natural Selection – Patra) – Steps up from high claiming to compete here. Although Super Duper is a lover for this galloping course, he will not have any impact on the outcome of this race.
8. EXCESSIVE FORCE (USA): (6 ch h by Broken Vow – Fevered Kiss) – Offered nothing when finishing in sixth position by over 26 lengths behind the improved Rani Bangala over one mile on October 15. Excessive Force has always been a dangerous contender at this level and despite his poor form, he can spring the surprise. Note: Blinkers on/Figure-8 off/Lasix removed.
9. LAST LICK: (6 b h by Casual Trick – Little Sister) – Returns from a 314-day break. Last Lick is going to need the run.
10. LUKSOL (USA): (4 b f by Tapiture – Stunning Taste) – Has a good record over the straight, having finished second four times from six attempts at the distance. Luksol is capable enough to run a good race here.
11. ULTIMATE MACHINE: (4 ch c by Nuclear Wayne – Away) – Came home in eighth position behind Rojorn Di Pilot over this distance, running at this level for the first time on September 2. Little or no improvement is expected from Ultimate Machine here.
12. TRUE BRAVADO (USA): (5 b h by Liasion – Truly Trudy) – Only in here for the experience.
13. AMERICAN TAP (CAN): (6 b h by Tapiture – American Castle) – Came in, especially for the Mouttet Mile. American Tap makes her local debut here in good nick. She has worked 5 furlong straight in 1:00.1, with the first four furlongs coming in 46.4 on October 14. American Tap looks ready and could open her account right away.
14. RING CHARMER: (5 b m by Where’s The Ring – Charming Beauty) – Only to be taken on trust.
15. PRESS CONFERENCE: (5 ch g by Twilight Time – Lady Shankari) – is going to find the main principals too hot to handle.
