Eddie Witz sets sail with My Island

Recording artiste Eddie Witz might have been born and raised in Los Angeles, California, but he has a love affair with Jamaica.

The singer collaborated with some of the island’s best musicians for the song My Island, which has been well-received.

“My Island is the sequel to Jeff Barry’s Top 10 global 1970 hit song, Montego Bay, which was a massive sensation on both sides of the Atlantic and helped put Jamaican tourism on the map. Barry and the Jobson brothers collaborated on the My Island concept as a follow-up song which was given to me to co-produce, arrange, perform, and record,” the singer whose real name is Edward Horowitz told the Jamaica Observer‘s Splash.

Released on October 20, the song was produced by the artiste and Grammy Award-winning songwriters and producers Brian and Native Wayne Jobson (No Doubt, Toots & The Maytals).

Featured musicians include Sly Dunbar (drum kit), Robbie Lyn (Peter Tosh, Third World) who is on keyboards, as well as Adam Topol (Jack Johnson) on percussion.

Meanwhile, the singer says he is grateful for the level of support the track has received in just a few weeks.

“I feel so grateful and blessed for the positive support and response thus far, as we’ve received over 30,000 streams on Spotify, IRIE FM in Jamaica has been spinning the song regularly, and Sirius/XM radio is spinning My Island on their Vacation Channel, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Channel and Kenny Chesney’s No Shoes channels.

“My Island is performing at the #3 world category slot in college radio networks all across the USA and Canada,” he said.

His second release was titled Jamaica Time — a song originally written by Native Wayne Jobson for Jimmy Buffett. Tracks on his first EP scheduled for release early next year include In California, Same Moon Tonight, In Too Deep, One That Got Away, and I Am What I Am.

In the coming years Eddie Witz hopes to be more successful globally.

“God willing, in five years I will be continuing to tour the world performing my music to live audiences and spreading as much love and positive energy as possible,” he told Splash.
