Ellen Wynter was on Saturday, November 25, 2023 remembered for her kindness, welcoming spirit, and the manner in which she touched the lives of the many people with whom she came into contact during her 93 years on earth.

Wynter, who had passed peacefully in Canada on October 4, 2023 encircled by her seven living children, was hailed as a woman whose faith had been the guiding light of her life.

Family, friends and her fellow parishioners gathered at Port Morant Methodist Church, Chapel Hill, St Thomas to pay respect to Wynter, filling the service with her favourite hymns.

Wynter was born in Barking Lodge, St Thomas, on December 13, 1929, the last of five children to Imogene and John Brissett. All her siblings predeceased her.

In 2016 she was predeceased by her husband Llewellyn A Wynter with whom she had enjoyed 54 years of marriage which produced eight children, one of which predeceased her.

In the early 70s, she left Jamaica for Canada in search of a better life for her family. Her husband and children eventually joined her in that country where she worked until her retirement.

Mourners at the service recalled her making frequent trips to Jamaica and her generosity is still talked about today.

She is survived by her seven children — Arthur, Dolcera, Stafford, Shirley Llewellyn Cordell and Erica; three sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; 47 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Her remains were interred in the family plot at Barking Lodge.
