Fashion and culinary excellence meet
Jamaican-American culinary guru Karl McDermott and sous-chef Richard Robertson promised that Grandeur, which was held recently at Serengeti, Hope Gardens, in St Andrew, would be a splendid event at which fashion and culinary excellence meet. By the smiles plastered across the faces of guests at the end of the night, the event delivered its objective in fine style.
“The Grandeur went as planned based on the feedback I’m getting, and my phone hasn’t stopped ringing. I’ve been getting calls from various people, even as far as England and Canada from people who couldn’t make it to the event. Oh, my god, I saw photos. I hear people talking, ‘Chef, please let us know when your next event will be,’ ” McDermott told the Jamaica Observer.
He explained his highlight of the event that was held on December 2.
“Every detail, from the exquisite presentation of dishes to the stunning runway adorned with Nigel Ramsay’s creations, bore the hallmark of perfection. The stars of the night were the Truffle Bourgogne Gnocchi with callaloo pesto, a cloud-like delight that drew sighs of pleasure from every corner; the Sous Vide Filet Mignonette and Prawns, a perfect marriage of flavours and textures, and the dessert Gold Leaf Chocolate Fondant Timbale, a sweet finale that left lingering traces of delight,” he said.
The fashion segment of the event showcased a wide array of pieces from the upcoming collection of international designer Nigel Ramsay.
“All the pieces where breathtaking and fabulous to the point where people were contacting me and asking where can I get some of the garments to purchase,” McDermott said.
Ramsay, who is renowned for his remarkable talent in the fashion industry, told the Observer that his creations were a combination of past, present, and future lines.
“My inspiration was derived from every facet of my life. It was a combination of the summer past, present, and where I see myself going into the future. My aim was to create pieces that created a garden setting. I wanted something more romantic, something more, I wouldn’t even say casual, but giving people an idea of what they’ll be able to utilise for a duster, jacket, or something,” he said.
The Caribbean Fashion Week alumnus explained that taffeta and tassels were standouts among the guests.
“The taffeta jacket which was paired with denim jeans received remarkable remarks from the audience. I think it was one of the strongest and was a great combination of the past, present, and the future. The tassels were also amazing and I even got a few requests to recreate the piece personally for some of our guests,” said Ramsay.
While there’s no set date for the next enchanting affair, the promise of another magical evening in 2024 lingers, leaving guests eager for the next chapter of Grandeur’s spellbinding journey.
