A first winner for trainer Michael Cain Jr
MICHAEL Cain Jr won his first race as a licensed conditioner on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 when he saddled Home Alone in race five of the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park.
Home Alone’s victory came in a Maiden Condition race for native-bred three-year-olds travelling 7½ furlongs (1,500m).
Ridden by Christopher Mamdeen, Home Alone came from behind runners and easily won by 4½ lengths ahead of Princess Talise (Dane Dawkins) and Sweet Victory (Tevin Foster) in a time of 1:35.4 (23.4 x 47.2 x 1:13.3).
Cain Jr was among 39 students, including one woman, who graduated from the 2023 Jamaica Racing Commission’s (JRC) Trainers Training programme. The graduation ceremony was held at Caymanas Park Golf Club in St Catherine on Friday, May 12.
“I feel very elated,” Cain Jr told the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“It has been a long time coming. I mean, I graduated May 12 and Home Alone got it done on Boxing Day [December 26, 2023]. Now that I am off the mark I am expecting better things in the future,” he said.
