Miami’s Pon Di Endz Street Dance celebrates 7th anniversary this Saturday
When he moved from Jamaica to the United States 23 years ago, Adrian ‘Teflon’ Brown was keen on taking a piece of his homeland with him.
He got involved in event promotion when he decided to cater to a demand. As a result, Pon Di Endz Miami Street Dance came to fruition.
This Saturday January 20, Pon Di Endz Miami Street Dance will mark its seventh anniversary and it will also feature a performance by hot rookie, dancehall artiste Armanii.
In an interview with Observer Online, Brown described the growth of the event.
“The event has grown so much that people from different states and countries have flown in just to attend the event. We get messages daily on our Instagram pages from people asking us to take the event to different places. When we began seven years ago, the event attracted hundreds of patrons. Today, the number is in the thousands,” Brown disclosed.
Pon Di Endz Miami Street Dance will be held at 728 NW 79th Street in Miami.
Brown stated how the idea for the event came about.
“Everybody was doing the same events, so we wanted to bring something different to the party scene. We were at a venue and it just felt like we were in Jamaica and one of the promoters said “me feel like mi deh pon di endz a yard” that’s how the name came about,” he said.
The first staging took place in January 2017 in Miami Gardens, Florida.
When asked what has kept the event going all these years, Brown said “The vibes; it’s first of its kind in South Florida which has captivated both local and international patrons. The authentic Jamaican dancehall street vibes are unmatched, and the atmosphere is electric. That’s what keeps patrons coming back.”
Over the seven years, a number of artistes have performed at the event including D’Yani, QQ, Deno Crazy, 1Ski Mask and Blak Ryno.
At Saturday’s event, the in-demand Extatic Sound, Iron Heart and 3 Kings will provide the musical vibes to keep patrons entertained.
Brown is also the promoter of South Florida- based events Par Thursday, Refill, Luxe All White and Moet n Brunch.
