Mt Pleasant returns to top of JPL with 1-0 win over Treasure Beach
ST ANN, Jamaica -Champions Mt Pleasant FA returned to the top of the tables in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL) on Sunday after edging cellar dwellers Treasure Beach FC 1-0 in their second round game played at Drax Hall in St Ann.
Sue-law McCalla’s first minute goal was enough for the Mt Pleasant team to beat the promoted Treasure Beach a second time this season and move to 32 points and regain the lead, one point above Portmore United.
It was the 10th straight loss for Treasure Beach who also finished the game with 10 players, as they had a late chance to rescue a point but saw their play miss the unprotected goal with Mt Pleasant FA’s goalkeeper Daniel Russell off his line.
Romario Bryan was shown a second yellow card in the 66th minute and was sent off for the second time this season.
In the first game of the double header, Portmore United scored two late goals to see off the other promoted team Lime Hall Academy 2-0 as they lost for a seventh straight game.
Chevaughn Walsh finally broke down Lime Hall’s defence in the 89th minute and Shacquwell Henry added a second goal in time added as Portmore United extended their unbeaten run to eight games.
Meanwhile, Harbour View FC and Vere United ended 0-0, the same score as Humble Lion against Dunbeholden FC.
