From the runway to the studio, Sandra Rose makes her musical debut with ‘Whiplash’

At the age of 16, Sandra Rose began a career in modeling with the Vogue Models and Talent Management company. Having studied business administration at Canada’s Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, Rose questioned her career path.

“Although I completed my course with honours, I really started questioning my career and decided that I would like to enter the entertainment industry,” Rose shared in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.

She continued, “I had started to take modeling more seriously after college, as that was initially my dream, since my mother was once a model. I’ve now dedicated all my attention to music with the aim of becoming the next big name in dancehall music.”

Sandra Rose makes her musical debut with the song Whiplash, for which the official music video was released on January 18.

Whiplash is produced by SmokeShop Studio. The song she said was inspired by good memories.
“Good memories. Those were what inspired the song, but I won’t get too much into detail about it,” Sandra Rose chuckled.

A video for Whiplash was directed by Is-Hustle.

“Growing up in Discovery Bay in St Ann, there was never a day that I didn’t hear music blaring from a radio or sound system. There was always someone in the community who set the vibes right by playing music. From being surrounded by music, I was inspired to start writing my own music from when I was about nine years old. It wasn’t until recently that I recorded my first song,” Rose explained.

Rose, who has resided in Toronto, Canada since 2012, (she has plans to relocate back to Jamaica), described her musical journey as a diverse one.

“The journey for me has been diverse. Growing up with my mom, I was raised on a diet of reggae and R&B music. Over the years when I traveled overseas to visit my family, I explored various genres of music and each phase brought me unique experiences, which made my journey a vibrant collection of diverse sounds and emotions,” she confided.

As a model, Sandra Rose has appeared in several music videos for international acts including Weather the Storm by DJ Khaled, Meek Mill and Lil Baby, and Together by Charly Black.
