Rajindra Campbell surpasses Jamaica’s indoor men’s shot put record with 21.13m throw
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Rajindra Campbell has added the Jamaican men’s shot put indoor record to his achievements after throwing 21.13m for third at the Orlen Cup Lodz at Atlas Arena, Lodz, Poland, a World Athletics Indoor Tour – Bronze event on Friday.
Campbell’s throw which placed him third, surpassed the Jamaican record 20.68m set by O’Dayne Richards on February 1, 2019 in Nehvizdy, Czech Republic.
It also saw Campbell improving on his previous best of 20.07m set in 2020 at the Robert W. Plaster Center, Pittsburg, Kansas.
Olympian Dorian Scott had held the Jamaican record before Richards after he threw 20.62m in March 2008 at Velódromo Luis Puig, Valencia, Spain.
Caniggia Raynor had also thrown 20.92m at a meet in Warrenburgh, USA but, while it was recognised by World Athletics, was never ratified by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA).
On Friday, Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri won with 21.26m and Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Cornnell Enekwechi was second with 21.14m.
