UPDATE: Common-law spouse implicated in death of hospital attendant in St Ann
ST ANN, Jamaica – Detectives in St Ann investigating the death of a 44-year-old female hospital attendant, who was killed over the weekend, have named the woman’s common-law spouse as the main suspect behind her death.
Kevan Shirley of Parry Town, Ocho Rios, St Ann is now in police custody after being apprehended in Higgins Land, Alexander in the parish on Monday.
According to police reports, Shirley reportedly ingested a corrosive substance before jumping into a concrete water tank. He was subsequently rescued with the assistance of residents and transported to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
The deceased, Cameka Haley, who was employed at the St Ann’s Bay Hospital, was killed sometime between Thursday night and Saturday. Observer Online understands that she was either strangled or hit with a blunt instrument.

Haley was reportedly involved in an argument with Shirley on Thursday, which was the last time she was seen before her son discovered her lifeless body on Saturday morning.
Upon arrival, the police reportedly found the deceased lying on her back on the floor, dressed in a nightgown and displaying noticeable black and blue marks on her neck and spots of blood on her clothing.
