Clarke scores double as Tivoli stun Arnett in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Steve Clarke came off the bench to score a second-half brace and lead 10-man Tivoli Gardens to a stunning 3-1 win over his former club Arnett Gardens in their Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League return round game played in rainy and muddy conditions at the stadium east complex on Monday.
Tivoli Gardens, who played with 10 men from the 61st minute when substitute Howard Morris was sent off, completed the double over their long-time rivals after also winning the first-round game 3-1 and moved ahead of them into fourth place in the points tables with 34 points.
Fabian Reid scored his sixth goal of the season in the 57th minute to give Arnett Gardens the lead but Tivoli Gardens hit back with three goals in seven minutes to stun the ‘Junglists.’
Justin Dunn pulled Tivoli Gardens back level in the 73rd minute when he scored from the penalty spot and Clarke gave them the lead when he was sent through in the 76th minute by another former Arnett Gardens player, the veteran Vishunel Harris, to beat goalkeeper Asher Hutchinson.
He completed his brace four minutes later when a slick team move down the left wing opened up the Arnett Gardens defence and he scored from close range.
In the first game, Harbour View snapped a three-game winless run with a 4-2 victory over Humble Lion, racing to a 4-0 lead before easing off the gas and giving up two late goals to James Thomas.
David Reid opened the scoring in the 30th minute and Odorland Harding scored in time added at the end of the first half as they led 2-0 at the half-time break.
Jahshaun Anglin made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute before Omar Thompson added a fourth in the 70th minute.
Thomas scored in the 76th and in time added at the end of the second half but could not prevent Humble Lion from losing back-to-back games.
